I’d Rather Drown
Quick little typographic experiment. I think my university house is getting me down.

A Social Documentary

A social documentary project on a subject of our choice.

I chose to explore extreme living conditions and the impact that it has on those who attempt to live within them.

“Blind”

Some experimental photos for my current concept of myopia (shortsightedness). I am classed as having high myopia, with a prescription of -10.00 in my right eye, and -9.00 in my left.

These images attempt to recreate as accurately as possible my vision without glasses.

The Poster Is Dead! Long Live The Poster!

More great work from the London/Oslo collaboration! :)

The Poster Is Dead! Long Live The Poster!

Some of the fantastic work on display at tonight’s exhibition for the Kingston and Oslo students.

The Poster Is Dead! Long Live The Poster!

An interesting and open live brief between Kingston University in London and Westerdals School of Communication in Oslo, Norway. We were challenged with this clever play of the old saying, ‘The King is Dead! Long Live The King!’ to reinvent the poster. The final posters were displayed in a private exhibition held at Kingston University after a week of very hard work!

For our collaboration, we chose to look into anamorphic type, casting the second half of our saying onto a wall, and challenging the notion that there is any one ‘right’ way to interpret a poster’s message. We used Futura for a simple, clean look, balanced with the use of raw materials such as wood, acetate and wire.

Collaboration with Matthew Osborne, Ollie Willis, Mari Drivdal and Jonas Nasse

Amnesty International Freedom of Speech Campaign

Documentary film from our live brief campaigning for freedom of speech on behalf of Amnesty International.

Amnesty International Freedom of Speech Campaign

Fellow Team Members: Andy Barker, Matthew Hill, Melissa Jarram, Hamish Steele and Rachel Shasha

A live brief, aimed at fundraising for an Amnesty International campaign of our choice. We chose to raise awareness of freedom of speech; in many countries people are denied the right to stand up for their beliefs, and face persecution, torture and even death for doing so. As mimes we aimed to highlight this and encouraged the public to help ‘give back a voice’.

The day was very successful, and we raised just over £200 for Amnesty International.

Film to follow soon…..

An editoral typography project undertaken in pairs. Working with my partner Caz Owen, we chose the sleepwalking Lady Macbeth scene (Act 5, Scene 1) from Shakespeare’s Macbeth. In deconstructing the text, we aimed to highlight the deteriorating mental state of Lady Macbeth in comparison to the other characters in the scene.

Physical ‘cut + paste’ layouts using pre-existing materials, to get us used to the idea of how good layouts function without a computer screen. They’re complete nonsense, but I think all the elements of the pages are looking pretty good together. :)

Self Initiated Project - The Guilty Look

For my first self intiated project of the year I explored the concept of ‘guilty looks’ in dogs. It has been scientifically proven that so-called ‘guilty’ behaviour in dogs is actually conditioned responses much like any other form of behaviour we train in our pets.

This film aims to debunk the misconceptions surrounding guilt in dogs by utilising 2 points of view and people playing the 2 characters of pet and owner. It aims to capture a sense of typical amateur Youtube films commonly uploaded by dog owners.

A Series of TV Related Deaths

Set a project brief to create a photographic response to ‘Tall Stories’, my group chose a modern, satirical look at unusual and hilarious ways to die. Heavily influenced by the ways in which the media can cause mass hysteria and hype, we decided to create a direct reference in creating the series.

This was a fantastically fun project in which I learnt a lot about lighting, set design and post editing.

Boundaries

Photographic concept exploring issues of boundaries in childhood. End result of a creepy, ‘monsters under the bed’ vibe.

House.
Photography concept looking at ‘housing’ my ideas in a tableau of images.
